Can Events Be Sustainable in a Post-Pandemic World?

With new health and sanitation requirements rolling out for in-person events, it can be easy to assume that sustainability is no longer feasible. However, sustainability and sanitation actually go hand-in-hand to provide peace of mind to guests.

In this session, your audience will learn how to avoid taking steps backward on the sustainability progress the events industry has made in recent years. Participants will learn how the latest government health guidelines apply to a variety of sustainable event best practices, how to adjust their sustainability programs if needed, and why environmental stewardship should still be a top priority.

Climate Change 101 for Event Professionals

With heat waves, wildfires, and other extreme weather seemingly becoming more common, you may be wondering, “Is this climate change? Will extreme weather affect the meetings I’m planning?”

Climate change isn’t just an environmental issue; it’s an everything issue. Our changing climate will affect — and in many cases is already affecting — many aspects of life and the economy, including tourism and event planning. How can the events industry be part of the solution?

In this session, your audience will learn the basics of climate change, how it is expected to impact the events industry, and how to incorporate climate solutions into their events. With ideas pulled from action-oriented resources including Project Drawdown and the Events Industry Council Sustainable Event Standards, participants will leave the session with a toolbox of solutions to apply at their own events and a thorough understanding of how they can play a positive role in the biggest issue facing humanity today.

Length: 45 minutes

At the beginning of the presentation, only 27% of participants felt hopeful about the climate crisis. At the conclusion of the presentation, 63% of participants felt hopeful!
