Today I’m debuting a new “Quick Tips” series! These short articles are meant to be quick for you to read and easy to apply.

Quick Tip:

Include a sustainability clause in your RFPs and reinforce it in your contracts.

You won’t arrive at practical sustainability solutions for your event until your vendors know sustainability matters to you.

To make your priorities clear, include a clause like this in your requests for vendor proposals:

Sustainability Expectations

We expect your proposal to include information about how your company mitigates the environmental impact of its services, such as greenhouse gas emissions, amount of waste generated, water and energy use, or other areas related to your services. We support the EIC Principles for Sustainable Events and encourage you to refer to them when drafting your response.

After you select your vendor, update your contract to require them to follow through on their sustainability promises.

Talking about sustainability is how we hold each other accountable and ultimately move the industry toward a better future. So take the initiative and put the topic out there!
